Photo shoot

My friend Kelly took some great pictures of Cannon for me. She is so talented in many ways- photography and making jewelry are a couple of things I take advantage of. GO here to see some awesome stuff she makes.

Here are a few of my favorite photos she took.

Two weeks Old

You are two weeks old today. We headed to the Dr. for your two week check up. This was the first time mommy ventured out with you and Luka alone.

(thanks to Kelly for the photo!)

Cannon is two weeks old already! He weighs in at 7 lbs and 14 oz. He is 21 inches long. (he has grown 1/2 inch in 2 weeks and gained 22 ounces in 10 days). Now- that is some major growing! We couldn't be more in love with our little cutie pie!

One Week Old

Your first week went by so fast! I always tell myself to enjoy every minute but that is hard sometimes when all of lifes influences are baring down.

Grammy Karla was here all week to help, thank goodness! She took such good care of all of us- especially Luka during this life changing time.

When you came home from the hospital your brothers and sister were SO excited to finally meet you. They all fight over holding you and loving you. We are all taken by your cute little self and so blessed to have you in our family.

You did have jaundice like the rest of the crew- unfortunately you had to sleep on a billy bed over night and it broke mommies heart. I hated every minute of it and wished I could just snuggle you better.

Luckily it was short lived and you came off the bed in under 24 hours. You gained 4 ounces over night and the dr. was amazed at your quick recovery.

Grammy was able to follow tradition and give you your first bath- you screamed your little head off and your brothers and sister watched with great concern.

We love you Cannon- what a blessing you are.

The birth

Bad news: On Sunday night we were anxiously awaiting the Labor and Delivery to call and schedule the exact time of my induction Monday morning. As time passed and no phone call came I decided to call them. Unfortunately I got a really rude nurse- hmmm. Anyway she told me I was third and the list and who knew if they would even get to me on Monday. ( not something a 9 month SICK pregnant lady likes hearing). Next she made me aware of the hospitals new policy: first no kids under 14 are allowed to visit the labor and delivery floor due to recent flu break outs. Also- only two visitors at a time and two people in the delivery room at a time. I was not amused. I understand that we all need to be safe but I was very disappointed- I had planned to have my mom, two sisters and mother in law in for the delivery. However- the list was now my mom and Ryan.

Monday morning: Ryan called in at 7:30 am hoping for a much more pleasant nurse which we got! She told us to expect a call around 11:00 am to come in for induction. So I took my time getting ready and right when I was finished and the bags were packed we got a call at 9:30 am to come in . YEAH!

The beginning: First I had to have penicillin because I was strep B positive this time. By the time they got that going it was 11 am so we knew it would be a while before our sweet baby arrived. Luckily the started my petosin at 1:00 pm. At this time I was dilated to a 4 and 70% effaced.

The middle: At 4 pm the Dr. on call came in to break my water but I hadn't made any more progression so he decided not to break my water and let my Dr. do it when she arrived at 5 pm (luckily she was the on call Dr. that night). I was disappointed that things seemed to be moving slowly. However- at 5 my Dr. broke my water and by 5:30 I was at a 6 and decided it was time for my epidural. The contractions hurt so much more when the water breaks and I was starting to feel some REAL pain.

The end: Unfortunately they had a hard time finding the anesthesiologist and he finally arrived around 6pm. I was seeing stars the pain was so bad. He got the epidural set up and I was laying on my side. Past experience has been that the epidural never works fully but takes the edge off. However- this time nothing was working and I was in some major pain. After about 10 minutes I felt like I had to push. Everyone thought there is no way I could have gone from a 6 to 10 in such a short time. The nurse checked me and sure enough I was FULLY dilated and it was time to deliver this baby boy. So- needless to say I delivered without the epidural working. Something I wouldn't recommend HA HA! My Dr. ran in and I started to push. It was only for 20 minutes but felt like 20 years with that intense pain. Ryan and my mom were wonderful coaches and so encouraging. I have to say I was crying and kept saying "I can't do this" but they loved me through it and there was no turning back:)

My Dr. was great too and I delivered Cannon Hoxsie Robinson at 6:50 pm. He weighed 7 pounds even. He was 20 1/2 inches long. The birth was a beautiful moment and very special. There is nothing like it!
